A day on the coast and at the beach

// July 3rd, 2009 // 1 Comment » // General

Christine and I both had today off since tomorrow is Independence Day so we decided it would be fun to go up the coast and go to the beach. We packed up the car in the late morning and headed over Hwy 17 and then up Hwy 1 towards our first destination: Pescadero.

Back in October Christine went to the pumpkin patch with the Werles in Pescadero while I was in Florida for a conference for work. Ever since then she has been raving about this artichoke bread at the Country Bakery there. We decided to have lunch in Pescadero so that I could finally experience this bread.

We got to the bakery and got our bread (fresh out of the oven I might add) and some deli meats and cheese and headed to the picnic area they have behind the bakery for some delicious lunch.

After lunch we drove back down the coast a bit to Bean Hollow State Beach. It was a really nice day — Not too warm, not too cool. It was a bit overcast at times, but overall very nice. We caught a lot of our fun on video including making sand castles, burying feet, playing with a hermit crab and then walking like a crab. We also got to see a family of dolphins jumping out of the water right off the shore.

Overall it was a most excellent day.

Woodies on the Wharf 2009

// June 28th, 2009 // No Comments » // General

This years’ Woodies on the Wharf was really great time since it was the first year that Andrew could really enjoy the cars. Ron, Natalie, and Cathi came down and stayed with us and then we all went over to Santa Cruz to go to the show with Orin, Donna, Arlen, and Debbie. We got over there early as usual to get T-shirts and posters before they sold out, made the rounds to check out the cars new to the show as well as old favorites, came back to Orin & Donna’s for some burgers and hot dogs, then back to the pier for the exit parade.

There was a bit of a gap in the woodies during the parade, so the video is in two parts. Made it a bit easier to upload it all though.

Father’s Day at the historic Hayes Mansion

// June 21st, 2009 // No Comments » // General

This morning Christine and Andrew took me to brunch at the historic Hayes Mansion. We sat outside right next to the three-piece Dixieland band that was playing awesome music. I got a chance to talk to them a bit during a break and mentioned that my dad was a trombonist that had played in some bands in the area way back when. The pianist said he had heard of Larry Hutchinson. It was nice to have that connection on Father’s Day.

Andrew was especially loving the music. He was dancing up a storm. I was spending most of my brunch relaxing and not chasing him around with the camera, but I did manage to catch a little bit of him dancing along to The Entertainer.

Music at the farmers market

We were at the farmers market this morning and when we walked by a tent with some street musicians Andrew kept saying “play song, guitar” and so we stopped to let him listen and dance a little bit. I gave him a dollar to put in the basket and he loved it. He even took a dollar from the guitar case and put it back into the basket to a thumbs up from one of the guys.

BTW, sorry it isn’t in HD. Shot this with my iPhone not with my Flip.

Gobble Gobble in June

This morning was our first morning at the new apartment. Christine’s mom was still here helping us move and her and I were walking back from getting some stuff out of the car when we saw a family of turkeys crossing the path about 8 feet from our front door. I ran inside and got my Flip Video and they had not gotten very far so I was able to get them on video.
