Elliot Masie’s Learning 2008

// November 2nd, 2008 // No Comments » // General

Last week I attended Elliot Masie’s Learning 2008 in Orlando, FL. I had a great time interacting with 1805 other learning professionals and really learned a lot in the process. Probably the highlight was the Q&A session I sat in on with Kevin Kelley of Wired Magazine fame. He is a true futurist and has done a lot of thinking about how the semantic web will impact learning.

Another great session was given by a couple of Masie Fellows on performance support. I entered not knowing much about PS, especially being that my involvement in our organziation is mostly from the technical infrastructure side. I left the session with a new passion for looking at how training can be delivered differently based on the moment of need.

There was also the great team dinner at Charley’s Steakhouse, one of the top steak houses in the nation. I of course ordered a bone-in ribeye and it was phenominal. The 6 week aging, daily cutting, and 30 hour seasoning created a tender steak that despite being rare, had no blood running out and yet remaind juicy and tender.

Road Trip to Tampa – Sharks v. Lightning

The day before the Learning 2008 conference I attended in Orlando, I actually flew into Tampa with my coworker John Matuk to see the Sharks play the Tampa Bay Lightning.

It was a great game with the Sharks winning 3-0. It was cool to see the Tampa fans welcome back Dan Boyle. It also was plain to see that the Tank is a much better hockey venue and San Jose has much better and louder fans!

So Patrick is away on a business trip to Orlando and we miss him very much! Yesterday Andrew and I went with Jake, Christen, Vivian, another Jake, and Adriana to Natural Bridges and Pescadero. It was so nice to go see the monarch butterflies swarming around by the beach in Santa Cruz and then driving up the 1 North to Pescadero to scope out some pumpkins.

Daddy and Andrew Big Basin

Patrick took this week off of work and we’re doing day trips all over the Bay Area. Our first trip was hiking at Big Basin where we saw the famous Mother of the Forest tree which stands 329 ft.; Andrew had a blast on the front pack with Daddy.

Rhonda and Jason’s wedding

// August 5th, 2008 // No Comments » // General

This past Saturday we made the trek up to Georgetown (which is near Auburn) to attend the wedding of my cousin Rhonda and her now husband Jason. It was a nice ceremony outdoors under the trees and had a fun reception that followed in a historic barn. The great picnic style food was all grown or raised on Jason’s farm by the both of them. Here’s a few pictures of Andrew during the festivities courtesy of my aunt Donna. More pictures of the rest of the wedding to follow.
